Soulful Time 1
This first practice is a mind-body connector. This brings the mind and body in sync with one another. Very important for those with anxiety issues.
My very first soulful time happened during the anxiety attacks I experienced in my twenties. This was no fun. And the feat of trying to get through each attack left me feeling exhausted, discouraged and alone.
So, I tried my hand at meditation. I did deep breathing with hatha yoga for 30-45 min then would lie down for meditation.
This was a beautiful time for me. I would envision a nature scene and invite in what ever and whom ever brought peace. Jesus, being the foundation of my childhood, would always be present. (For me, He represents safety, security, peace and strength).
This quiet time would last 30 min or so. You can shorten that if you like…however, when experiencing anxiety attacks, I wouldn’t want to leave this peaceful place.
Through this practice, my faith was strengthened, fear receded, and I became strong again.
Soulful Time 2
Scripture and Affirmations became the focal point of my Soulful Time
When living in fear, anxiety or any struggle, having words of wisdom memorized helps bring the mind-body OUT of fight or flight.
So, during Soulful Time I would recite a scripture or affirmation that I had memorized and meditate on it. Combined with deep, mono-focused breathing, I could feel the peace wash over me, faith affirm me, and strength within me.
Here are a few of the scriptures and affirmations I have memorized. Borrow these until you can find your own that resonate and speak to your soul.
Please note: some of these are my own, some from the Bible and some are from other wise souls that crossed my path during my journey to healing.
For God didn’t give me a spirit of timidity, but one of power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
Things always work out for me. Everything that I do prospers. I have abundance in Jesus name.
Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrew 11:1
Our perceptions return to us exactly what we perceive.
I trust that no matter what, I will be OK.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire you will not be burned or scorched, nor with the flame kindle upon me. Isaiah 43:2
As I release the past, I allow the new, fresh and vital to enter. Life flows through me.
Speak truth and goodness into myself.
Cast all your anxiety on Him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7
Live with a thankful heart.
It shall be done for you, as you have believed. Matthew 8:13
I am open and receptive to all that life brings me. Thank you life.
Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable; if anything is excellent of praiseworthy, think about such things…And the peace of God will be with you. Phillipians 4:8
I let go of old limitations and beliefs. I let go and I am at peace.

Find a daily reader that inspires you.
The first daily reader I used for this purpose was Jesus is Calling. I LOVED this time that I spent each morning in meditation and prayer that was brought on by the wisdom I received from this daily reader.
There are many written that bring inspiration, peace and healing. Find one that resonates with you. Read the daily wisdom, quiet the mind, breathe, then mono focus on the meaning it has for you and how you can apply it this day.
